Is it right for me?

You probably have many questions at this time. Is Revisional Surgery the right approach for you? What is involved? How does it work? Why select the expertise of The Bariatric Group?
Let’s try to put your mind to rest…

Shall we begin?

    Who are
    we?

    Revisional
    Surgery

Revisional weight loss surgery is a surgical procedure that is performed on patients who have already undergone a form of bariatric surgery, such as Gastric Band or Gastric Sleeve and have either had complications or have not had a significant weight loss.
Typically a Gastric Bypass would be the preferred option for revisional surgery. However, patients that have previously had a bypass, but who have subsequently regained weight can opt to have an adjustable Gastric Band on top of their bypass.

    Gastric Band on top
    of Gastric Bypass

Gastric Banding operations typically take an hour unless you have adhesions and some scarring from your previous weight loss surgery, then more time will be required.
The procedure involves the surgeon placing a silicone band around the top section of your stomach. To loosen or tighten the gastric band, fluid is injected into or removed through a filling port (that sits underneath your skin) this is connected to an inflatable ring which sits along the inner part of the band. This element of the procedure can be performed easily in any of our eight local clinic locations and only takes a few minutes.

    What are
    the risks?

There are a small number of complications associated with the surgery which can be serious including; leaking, blood clots and haemorrhages. We at The Bariatric Group have some of the leading surgeons in the country whose professionalism and skill has allowed our patients to have minimal, if any, complications.

    Gastric Band to
    Gastric Bypass

You will be asked to have a barium swallow (medical imaging procedure) prior to your surgery being agreed – this is to help the surgeon determine if your operation can be completed in a single stage – meaning removal of your Gastric Band and converting to Gastric Bypass in a single operation. You will be in theatre for around two and a half hours and you will spend two nights in hospital after the weight loss procedure.
