Who says that life cannot be fun after bariatric surgery? So many people think that after weight loss surgery you will just sit at home eating a salad and sipping on your water!
This is simply a myth.
Here are some top tips that will ensure that your night is full of fun and flavour!
Have a light lunch during the day, to ensure that you don’t over order in the restaurant.
Book a taxi. You can have a few glasses of alcohol after surgery – but remember that alcohol affects you more.
Remember not to drink 30 minutes either side of your meal.
If the restaurant serves up large portions – then just order a starter as your main meal.
Order your meal first, so that you are not tempted by the choices of your friends.
Avoid fried food. Ask for grilled/steamed/poached/roasted or baked.
Ask for any sauce to be put on the side. (creamy sauces are not good for Gastric Sleeve and Gastric Bypass patients)
Always eat your protein first – always.
Gastric band patients – remember to chew, chew and chew! (yes – you can eat steak!)
Ask for a doggy bag and eat the leftovers for lunch the next day.
Avoid the dessert menu, as the end of your evening may result in a bout of dumping syndrome and extra calories are consumed!
Many patients report a change in their taste buds after surgery – this is not unusual.
So don’t be frightened about eating out after your surgery! There is a whole new world of flavour out there waiting to be tasted – albeit in a smaller portion!
Bon appetite!
