The Gastric Balloon
The gastric balloon (Orbera) is a small, soft silicone balloon that is inserted into the stomach and filled with saline. The balloon is a procedure that assists with weight loss and lasts either six or twelve months, giving you the necessary time and support to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Expected weight loss is between 15-20kg (2-3 stone)* with excellent success rates for long term weight loss.
The Orbera is available to those with a BMI of 27 or above, it does not require you to follow a special diet prior to its insertion, nor does it involve a general anaesthetic.
What are the risks?
There are small risks associated with the insertion and removal of the balloon, so it is essential the balloon is removed after six or twelve months to minimise any risks.
How much does it cost?
Our Gastric Balloon prices are dependent on your individual needs as well as your BMI.
Our Gastric Balloon tailored packages include:
- Pre-op assessment with a surgeon.
- Surgery fees both insertion and removal procedures.
- Unlimited number of regular appointments with the dietitian whilst you balloon is in situ.
- One further dietetic appointment after your balloon is removed.
Prices start from just £3,495.
Finance options are also available. (Terms and Conditions apply)
This procedure will involve you being mildly sedated, the balloon is then placed in your stomach via your mouth during a simple 20-30 minute ‘endoscopic’ procedure. The soft silicone balloon is then filled with saline through a self-sealing valve where it remains for a maximum of six or twelve months. For the first week you will follow a liquid diet with instructions to drink plenty of fluids, you will start eating solid foods again with advice from our specialist bariatric dietitian. It is removed either six or twelve months later with the same procedure.
Gastric Balloon aftercare
Seven or thirteen month Gastric Balloon aftercare support package:
- Access to our specialist weight-loss team, which includes Bariatric surgeons, dietitians and nurses.
- 24-hour emergency telephone helpline.
- Removal of the balloon at the end of your chosen period.
