Nick Kennedy

Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensive Care Specialist

Dr Kennedy has been a Consultant for twelve years and has specialised in bariatric anaesthesia since helping set up the bariatric service for Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust and The Bariatric Group in 2003.

Dr Kennedy leads the anaesthetic services across all The Bariatric Group centres and has wide experience in managing bariatric surgical patients and obese patients in general, in both the operating theatre and in Critical/Intensive Care.

Dr Kennedy was elected Chairman of the Society of Bariatric Anaesthetists (SOBA) in 2008. SOBA is a national organisation promoting quality, safety and training in anaesthesia for the obese and bariatric surgical patient.

Anne Wheeler


Anne has led the dietetic team at The Bariatric Group since 2003. She qualified as a dietitian in 1997 and is registered with the Health Professions Council and a member of the British Dietetic Association.

Anne has worked in weight management since qualifying and has undertaken training in behavioural change, including cognitive behavioural techniques and motivational interviewing. Previously she was the NHS clinical lead for Bariatric dietetics across the South West. She has also worked as a dietitian in GP surgeries as well as running specialised hospital clinics. She is a committee member on the Dietitians Group of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society and has been instrumental in developing national dietetic guidelines.

Jane Wilkinson-Tancock

Registered General Nurse

Jane is a Registered General Nurse (RGN). She trained at the United Midlands College of Nursing and Midwifery and gained her qualification in 1992. Working in a variety of nursing roles, Jane's life changed in 2005, when she decided to have Gastric Band surgery in Belgium.

On returning to the UK it soon became apparent that there was a lack of provision for aftercare, so Jane decided to train as Specialist Bariatric Nurse. Jane has looked after Gastric Band patients for the last 7 years.

Jane's Gastric Band was removed in 2011 due to pouch dilation. She had Gastric Bypass revision surgery and is enjoying the results!

Jane runs our aftercare clinics and patients find her empathetic approach reassuring, as she has experienced Surgery herself.

Jane lives in Devon with her husband and 3 children and enjoys playing squash in her spare time.

Pauline Gibbins


Pauline is a registered General Nurse (RGN) and qualified in 2000 from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. Pauline has had a verity of roles she spent 6 years working on Surgical and Medical Wards as a Staff Nurse, 8 years working in Minor Injuries Unit as a Nurse Practitioner and 3 years as a Practice Nurse in a busy teaching surgery. Pauline’s life has changed for the better after having bariatric surgery in 2015.

Pauline is based in the office to address continuing patient care and to ensure all clinical needs of the patients are met.

Pauline lives in Devon with her husband and 3 children.
