You are not hired?

Does being overweight influence your chances of getting the job or career that you would like?

In a series of interesting studies by a team at Leeds Beckett University (Flint et al 2016) they looked into weight stigma and discrimination. In one study they questioned 181 participants and asked them to rate the suitability of thee candidates for various jobs. There were people who were overweight a healthy weight and with no photo at all.

The graphs show the response there is a considerable decline in perceived suitability for the overweight people and this is true whether the job was manual or sedentary, although there was less of a drop for more sedentary jobs. We were wondering whether anyone had noticed this themselves when applying for jobs and also any change that happened after bariatric surgery. Are jobs available that weren’t before?
