On The 11th Day Of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Eleven Pipers Piping

Jane has so much more confidence since having bariatric surgery

I’ve known patients lose four or five stone, and still remain unable to feel slimmer or identify with their new much sought after shape. Having lost 5 stone myself with the gastric bypass, and now able to fit comfortably into a size 16, I still felt I was unable to wear a dress let alone look good in one. It was my colleagues who persuaded me otherwise, and one day decided to bring some of their size 16 dresses into work in order to prove it. ( I’m looking at you Ali Fry !! ) Very self consciously, and red faced, I tried them on as instructed, during lunchtime. I stepped out to whoops and gasps, and someone took photos. Only afterwards when looking at the photos was I able to see how I actually looked, rather than the image I still had of myself in my head.

Years and years of obesity can have a lasting impact on someone’s feelings of self worth and self esteem.

I have a good friend, very petite, a size 8. She is a sybarite, and owns an extensive lingerie collection. As I lost my weight, she increasingly attempted to persuade me to buy some beautiful underwear, but the thought of doing so just made me sad. I was convinced that you had to have a lingerie model’s figure in order to look good in it. However, inspired by the dress trying on session, I decided to take the plunge and hit Marks and Spencer. With my friend’s expert guidance and support, I opted for a beautiful plum coloured silk camisole and short set with a lush cream lace trim. Self consciously, and with much trepidation, I tried it on at home. Looking in the mirror, I was shocked and delighted. My friend’s clever choice of underwear in fact enhanced my curves and shape, and made me feel amazing. This was a turning point for me, and I have not looked back. I now too am the proud owner of large collection of beautiful lingerie, and haven’t looked back since.
